Colin Trevorrow, the director of the first Jurassic World movie, is returning to helm the third one.
The news was confirmed today by Jurassic Overlord Steven Spielberg in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. Trevorrow, who directed the first movie, passed on directing the sequel Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom after being tapped to work on Star Wars: Episode IX instead. Trevorrow and Disney split on that project and Trevorrow was replaced by J.J. Abrams.
The third movie is currently being penned by Trevorrow and screenwriter Emily Carmichael, who also worked on Pacific Rim: Uprising, with an intention for a June 2021 release. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom will release on June 22 later this year.
